Description: This is an auction for a very rare and unusual Smiths "Tropical" from 1953, it has the very unusual "J.W.Benson" dial and movement fully marked as well, so its basically just about the hardest model to find in original condition. The watch has wear and shows its age but in a wonderful way, the dial is a "Tropical" Tropical dial, if you understand what I am saying and it still retains its original hands The strap is just a modern replacement but everything else is as it should be, this model is not easy to find and its a wonderful original example. The Smiths Expedition series watches with the Dennison "Aquatite" case are historically important watches for English watchmaking and for many, myself included they are still very undervalued because they are low production and almost impossible to find now in original condition. Its working well at present but has not been extensively tested, though if you look at the images of the movement they speak for themselves, the high grade 16 jewel movement is just stunning.
