Description: This very nice rug was purchased on the Navajo reservation from the Ganado are during the 1950's. It is woven from handspun wool in the natural wool colors. The red color was achieved by the use of aniline dye. It has a stepped diamond pattern through the center with bands of black, white, brown, and red. Stepped triangles with bands of black, white, brown, and red centers are along the sides. The background is made up of variegated brown and grey colors. The rug is framed with a border of white and black. The weaving is nice and tight and well crafted. The condition is appropriate with age and use. It has small holes. Some fading and staining.
