Russian Soviet Writer and Memoirist Alexey Kozhevnikov. The novel “Living Water” is “an average work of socialist realism with an impeccably positive hero, who achieves success in testing a new irrigation system in Khakassia, overcoming difficulties - however, very far-fetched. The novel serves to promote the decree of the Central Committee of the CPSU "On the rise of agriculture in the post-war period" and prepares the introduction of the irrigation system in question without fail. " In Solzhenitsyn's Cancer Ward, schoolboy Demka, while reading this novel, “could not make out what was such a nuisance and dregs in his soul”.
