Description: 1948 JCM 2 Hideo Shimizu Blue Baseball Back Menko trading card from Japan PSA 7 HIGHEST GRADED POP 1! This post war Japanese sports card is a rectangular Menko with measurements similar to a vintage Tobacco card. Baseball was introduced to Japan in the late 1870's by an American school teacher who was also working as a foreign advisor to the Japanese Emperor. Baseball quickly became a favorite of teenagers and young adults of the time spreading to multiple schools and universities. By 1911 however, baseball was associated with delinquency and violent activity in the Japanese youth. Despite older citizens of the Empire fearing "Baseball Gangs" the sport was still extremely popular. Baseball still remained popular during and after WWII, with the sport quickly becoming a source of national pride. Check our other auctions for similar items & to save on shipping.
