This original newspaper contains a front page heading: "Forcing Jews Into Palestine Would Cause War, Declares Close Student of Middle East", with a prediction of war between the Jews and the Arabs in Palestine. This prediction was made in the aftremath of THE HOLOCAUST, in which large numbers of Jews fleeing Nazi Europe were headed to Palestine. This prediction that was made nearly 80 years ago certainly seems to have come to fruitionIn 1946, there were several events related to Jewish immigration to Palestine, including the arrival of a ship of Jewish immigrants, the Anglo-American Committee of Inquiry's recommendations, and President Truman's support for a Jewish state. On August 14, 1946, the ship Henrietta Szold arrived in Haifa carrying over 500 Jewish immigrants from Greece. The British authorities interned the immigrants and deported them to Cyprus. In April 1946, the Anglo-American Committee of Inquiry unanimously recommended the immediate admission of 100,000 Jewish refugees into Palestine. The committee also recommended ending the 1939 White Paper restrictions on land sales to Jews. The US endorsed the committee's findings, but the British made their agreement conditional on US assistance in case of another Arab revolt. In October 1946, President Truman publicly declared his support for the creation of a Jewish state. In 1947, the United Nations Special Commission on Palestine recommended dividing Palestine into Jewish and Arab states. The United Nations adopted Resolution 181, which would divide Palestine in May 1948. Very good condition.
