He enlisted on April 18 1942 and Received on Board the USS Spry PG 64 on June 25, 1942. US Spry was a Patrol Gunboat with 87 men. This photo from when Crossing the Equator on Feb 12, 1943 Brazil. He was onboard when the USS Spry along with the USS Erie were attacked by U-Boat 163 while with convoy to Guantanamo Bay. USS Erie was sunk by torpedoes.
