Description: 1942 Press Photo WWII Navy Plastic Plywood Low-winged Monoplane PHOTO DESCRIPTION: The press release on the back of the photo reads as: Navy gets plastic-plywood plane -- Washington DC -- This new type low-winged monoplane has a plywood surface highly resistant to oil, water and fire. Bullets striking the plane make clean holes, instead of "Flowering" as they do when striking metal. Constructed for the Navy by the Timm Aircraft Corporation. The two-seater may be put into Mass production to provide training ships for Naval air Cadets if tests prove successful. Plane only requires ten percent metal (it is made of 90 percent wood), and would alleviate shortages of vital metals such as aluminum and magnesium. 4-6-42Photo measures approximately: 9 x 7 inPart number: D1333THERE ARE A FEW MINOR CREASE MARKINGS.
