Capt. Forrest P. Sherman was in command of the 14,700 ton aircraft carrier U.S.S. Wasp when she was sunk on September 15, by an enemy submarine attack in the South Pacific. Capt.Sherman who is one of the Nation's foremost experts in Naval Aviation apparently escaped injury in the torpedo of his ship, was disclosed by his father. Frank J. Sherman said he received a recent message from his son and although Capt. Forrest did not mention the sinking he conveyed the impression of being safe. Photo measures 5 x 7 inches.
