Even calisthenics, that monotonous substitute for something to do, has been streamlined. The Engineer replacement center here has a 400-yard obstacle race course designed for fighting men. It makes exercise a joy and makes a game of military training. Men are introduced to the obstacle course gradually. At first,they just run around it and clear its obstacles as best they can. From then on,difficulties and fun multiply. The final race is run with the men carrying comat packs and rifles, teaching them to handle themselves and their fighting tools under any awkward circumstances that might arise on a battlefield.
