Description: For sale are two gorgeous signatures by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt on two official appointments of Henry Slattery. As you can see from the accompanying photographs, FDR’s signatures are clean and strong. The first document and appoints Slattery as the Under Secretary of the Interior (and also features the signature of Secretary of the Interior Harold Ickes). The second appoints him as the Administrator of Rural Electrification (also signed by Secretary of State Cordell Hull). These were purchased at an estate sale of a member of the Slattery family. Please note that the second document (appointment as Administrator of Rural Electrification) has been affixed to one-quarter inch thick cardboard. I was hoping to consign these with Heritage Auctions. Heritage offered a preliminary confirmation of their authenticity but declined to accept them for consignment as they fell short of their $5,000 minimum threshold (see photo of email correspondence). Heritage suggested several smaller auction houses, but I don’t have the time or inclination to pursue those options. I am looking to break even and move on. This lot also includes a photograph of Mr. Slattery at a banquet celebrating his naming Administrator of Rural Electrification. Thank you and please reach out with any questions.
