Bound in the publisher's cloth with the very scarce, unclipped dust wrapper. Written by British author Charles Williams, known for his poetry, novels and plays. 'Descent into Hell' follows two other supernatural thrillers written by Williams, being 'War in Heaven' and 'Many Dimensions'. '(1886-1945) UK poet, lay theologian and author whose novels are essentially theological fantasy thrillers; he was closely associated with C S Lewis and J R R Tolkien as part of the Oxford reading group known as the Inklings. His romantic and obscurely devout use of Tarot and Grail imagery helped bring these themes into the generic mainstream ' SF encyclopaedia. This particular work is a thrilling, supernatural novel combining elements of fantasy fiction and Christian symbolism. Its chilling nature means it is not recommended for reading when alone at night in an empty house. With a previous owner's ink inscription to the front endpaper dated 1945. CONDITION Bound in the publisher's original cloth, with the original, unclipped dust wrapper. Externally, very good, with light bumping to the extremities and the odd mark to cloth.
