Description: Handsome fold-out 1935 Esso Colonial Beacon Oil Company road map of New England, printed more than 82 years ago. This map opens to 28" x 22" and has great detail on old highway alignments in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine, with cartography by the General Drafting Company. The map is drawn on a scale of approximately 12½ miles to one inch, and little airplane symbols locate flying fields for barnstorming pilots. On the reverse side of the map there is an index to cities and towns, a list of public lands in New England, and inset plans of Boston and New York City. The New York City map shows numerous car ferry crossings on the Hudson and East Rivers. The Triborough Bridge was still under construction. The map was published by Colonial Beacon in 1935 and is dated on the cover and in the legend. Please note: Colonial Beacon issued two versions of its 1935 road map of New England. Both versions are dated 1935 in the legend. This version also has the date on the cover; the other version has no date on the cover. Condition: This map is in very good, lightly used condition, with a couple of small spots and tiny breaks just starting on two fold corners. Pencil marks locate road construction on Route 9 in southern Vermont. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions. Buy with confidence!
