Description: The Art of the Dance. Isadora Duncan. Edited, with an Introduction, by Sheldon Cheney. New York: Theatre Arts 1928. First edition. With the owner signature of Willem van Loon, the dancer and son of Hendrik Willem van Loon, and a further inscription: "sends this with Puck's [Willem's nickname] love to May Sarton's friend Peter P. Vienna to New York, Oct. 1930." I can only guess that Willem (studying in Vienna) sent this book to Eva Le Gallienne (May Sarton's friend, who played Peter Pan in 1928-29). He presumably had bought the book in New York (at Brentano's, label inside rear cover) while back for the summer. At least, that is what I make of the inscription! Good minus. Corners worn through, staining, fading, other wear. Textblock affected by several patches of bottom margin dampstain. Otherwise yellowing, occasional foxing, minor blemishes. Binding has cracking, remains serviceable. The signatures inside the covers are facsimiles.
