Hardback children's book without a dust jacket AUTHOR'S PERSONAL COPY? 12 postcards from around the world have been glued onto the blank pages of this book - they are so completely glued-in that it is not possible to read any more than the odd word here and there. It is possible to read that one of the cards is addressed to 'Miss D M Stuart' and another is addressed to 'Dorothy' and the parts of the messages that can be read are giving Dorothy information about the subjects on the cards. There are also proof marks and corrections made to the text. I can find no other evidence that this was the author's personal copy. The full contents of the book can be seen in picture five above - a selected number of countries are described in fairly traditional terms for an audience of intelligent "Young Folks" but it does not give any sense of the attitudes of the early part of the 20th century and completely ignores the First World War which ended less than a decade earlier. CONDITION: This secondhand book is in very good condition - there are proofing marks and corrections in the text, writing and a newspaper clipping on the front endpaper plus 12 postcards glued onto blank places throughout the book - PLEASE READ THE "AUTHOR'S COPY?" paragraph in the description for a full explanation.
