($) It is matted and backed (NOT laid down) but the mat is soiled. Print is in very good condition . Shipping is 15. Born George Overbury “Pop” Hart in Illinois, but raised in Rochester NY. At18 he went to London and became an itinerant sign painter to support himself.Coming back to the States he ended up in Chicago working as an illustrator fornewspapers and for the 1893 Chicago World’s Fair as an sign painter. Up untilthis point, In his 30’s, he was a self-taught artist. He then attended the Chicago Art Institute as well as the Academie Julien in Paris. Late in life he settled in Coytesville NJwhere he painted sets for the local film industry. While traveling he primarily did watercolors,translating them into drypoint, etchings and lithography. His works have been exhibited widely in galleries and museums across the country and are in thepermanent collection of The Museum of Modern Art, Brooklyn Museum, SanFrancisco Museum of Modern Art and the Smithsonian Institute. The largest collection some 5000-pieces ofhis work is held by the Zimmerlil Art Museum at Rutgers University
