Description: Normally this wouldn’t have gotten my attention. However, the sun made it a nice purple quite quickly. Then I find that when you look at these old things in detail, they are always interesting. This was your standard catsup bottle standing 10” tall, 2 ½” across with 10 panels. But then notice the top. Most of the catsup at the time had a zinc screw lid. This one has a strange heavy ring cork top. Looking closer you can see the seam lines going around and then up and over. This was an early machine-made bottle. They were still using manganese in the glass so I would date it around 1920. For this one, the soil hasn’t been kind. It is heavily hazed inside and out to appear almost as frosted glass. The pattern is interesting and there is light opalescence on the outside. There are a couple of small half moon dings in one spot but no real damage. A light oil may minimize the stain but the haze also makes it look so old and interesting.
