Description: I have here for sale a book entitled UNDER THE WINDOW Pictures & Rhymes for Children by KATE GREENAWAY published b y Frederick Warne & Co. Ltd., London & New York, undated, but online research indicates c.1920. First published by George Routledge in 1879. "Under the Window" was Kate Greenaway's first children's picture book composed of her own verses and illustrations. The book was an instant commercial success and helped launch Greenaway's career as a children's book illustrator and author in the late nineteenth century. The book includes numerous delightful colour illustrations throughout.Printed by Edmund Evans of Rose Place. Evans had been at Racquet Street for years and moved to Rose Place in 1914. Title page has numbers 81.245 at bottom. Colour illustrated hardboards with cream lettering on the front board and black lettering on the cream cloth spine protected by a price clipped colour illustrated dust jacket. Minor tears to the top edge and bottom of the spine of the dust jacket. Gift inscription on the front endpaper. Minor marks on pages.
