Description: This is a lot of three antique typed letters on the letterhead of and signed by famous coin dealer Henry Chapman of Philadelphia, one of the most important American Numismatist of the late 19th and early 20th century. Also included is Henry Chapman’s business card which is pinned to one of the letters. These letters are all dated a few days apart in January 1920 and are sent to the same person who has the executor of an estate that had a valuable coin collection. The first letter is dated January 16, 1920 and has Chapman’s business card attached and inquires as to the interest in sell the coin collection of the late R.C. Hale. The second letter is dated January 20th, 1920 and offers to catalog the Hale collection for 15% of the valuation or to sell the collection at auction for 25% of the gross proceeds. The third letter is dated January 24th and is a reply to executor regarding cataloging the coin collection which also suggests auctioning might be a better option. This last letter also has a postscript in Chapman’s hand that mentions that Chapman also handled the sale of the coin collection of prominent collector George H. Earle, Jr. which brought $55,800 which he touts as “US Largest Sale”. All letters are vintage originals boldly signed by Chapman and are on Chapman’s Numismatist letterhead and all are in very good condition. Email any questions. Thanks for looking.
