Description: Book Description: Nancy M. Schoonmaker, Executive Secretary of Citizenship of the Connecticut Woman Suffrage Association, The Actual Government of Connecticut. New York: National Woman Suffrage Publishing Company, 1919, 119 pages plus three tables. First Edition. Black title on tan boards. 5 ¼” x 7 ¼ ”. Tanning to title page and next to pages. Other-wise clean copy that is tightly bound. Over-all very good. The goal of this work was to make women more informed about the workings of government in preparation for them obtaining the vote, hopefully within the year. In 1919, suffragists needed to get 36 states to ratify the suffrage amendment to the Constitution for it to become national law. 35 states had approved Votes for Women and the hope was that Connecticut would be 36. Because of a recalcitrant governor, this was not to be and Tennessee obtained that honor instead.
