1919? Surrey Lane Original Graphite Pencil Drawing Edwin Francis Tunbridge Wells

Description: "A Surrey Lane." An original sketch in pencil for a painting I am also selling on ebay (please see my other items).The sketch shows a landscape under the North Downs, with a man fishing on the right. The painting is titled on the back 'Near Reigate', but this sketch is titled 'A Surrey Lane.' The sketch notes various colours ('Grey grass' for example in the road area), and details ('Thistles'), and also suggestions ('?narrow to Lane'). It is dated 'Aug. 191' with the exact year cut off, but I suspect it is 1919. I am selling a similar pencil sketch of Salehurst in Sussex by Francis which is also dated Aug. 1919. Interestingly, the painting is done much later, and dated 1941. The artist, Edwin Francis, was I believe an amateur of considerable ability, based in Tunbridge Wells.The combination of drawing and painting would make an interesting item for anyone living in that area. The drawing as displayed in the mount, approx. 16cms x 12cms.Condition: A little foxed, and marked in the title area, with small holes there too. Please study the photographs.
