And thanks to Doane Academy's history: "St. Mary’s Hall enjoyed relative prosperity across the first three decades of the 20th century. The administration of Principal Beulah Fearnley and her husband Rev. John Fearnley (school chaplain from 1900-1925) brought the introduction of central heating and electrical lighting. A new modern kitchen, talented cooks, and a dietician were part of the “new ideas” of the era.
