Description: This Stunning Tobacco Felt was issued by the American Tobacco Company in 1914 as a premium. It is listed Burdick’s American Card Catalogue ACC, under the odd items in The Tobacco Blankets Section however as it was a one off item and not part of any other series it was not given a series Designation number. The image is based on the painting SEPTEMBER MORN by the French artist Paul Chabas. When the painting was exhibited in Paris back in 1912, this painting created sensation. The artist's intimate portrayal of a young, demure bather at sunrise is memorable for the ethereal landscape that envelops her and for the bashful charm of sunbeams revealing the outline of her body. A beautiful image which suggest art nouveaux stylings. Very similar to the stlyings of the American painter MAXFIELD PARRISH who was also painting around the same period. The Mermaids and Fish Border were added by the Tobacco Company and are not features in the original painting. The Felt measures Just under 9 inches by just under 5 ½ inches approx. I have scanned the felt, both back and front, fairly large for you to be able to judge condition. The felt has no tears or holes, it has never been washed or sewn. The colors are strong and vibrant.
