Description: I have for sale a 1914 medal commemorating Avery Library that is located in Avery Hall at Columbia University in New York City. The library was named after Henry Ogden Avery who died in 1890. His parents Samuel and Mary Avery established the library as a memorial to their son. This medal is silver, it is 2 1/2 inches in diameter and in a high grade circulated condition but it is dark in color. It does have a light colored streak on the obverse, it is not damage, just a light colored streak, see photos. Victor D. Brenner was the medalist and the medal was struck by Tiffany & Co. of New York City. On the rim it reads TIFFANY & CO FINE SILVER. On the obverse it reads PRESENTED TO SAMVEL PVTNAM AVERY BY HIS FRIENDS AND THE ARCHITECTS OF NEW YORK. Bust of Avery is in the center. The reverse at the top reads THE AVERY LIBRARY with a building below.
