Description: 1914 – ALLAN’S WIFE By H. Rider Haggard Antiquarian HB Book Sevenpenny Library 1914 – ALLAN’S WIFE By H. Rider Haggard Antiquarian Hardback Book. With a FRONTISPIECE illustration and decorated title page. This is part of Hodder & Stoughton’s Sevenpenny Library. Published by Hodder And Stoughton in MCMXIV (1914) and printed in Great Britain by Hodder and Stoughton, London. It was originally published in 1889. Allan’s Wife is a novella by H. Rider Haggard. It is part of the "Allan Quatermain" series and serves as a sequel to the earlier adventures of the character Allan Quatermain, who is a big-game hunter and explorer. H. Rider Haggard, whose full name was Sir Henry Rider Haggard, was a British author born on June 22, 1856, in Norfolk, England, and he passed away on May 14, 1925. He is best known for his adventure novels set in exotic locations, often featuring elements of fantasy and the supernatural. There is no Dust Jacket. The boards and spine are bound in the publisher’s original red cloth, which has embossed decorations on the front board and spine and gilt lettering on the spine. The boards and spine are intact and robust, but there is some wear. This includes soft bumping to the corners, several small marks and stains, discolouration to the cloth, and light fading on the spine. Please see the photographs provided for further reference. Inside, the pages are tanned. The pages are overall neat and mostly uncreased, with just the very occasional small crease. However, there are occasional marks of very light foxing on the pages, which do not affect the text. A few pages, including on the inner edge of the frontispiece, have small rips to their edges, but this does not affect the text or illustration. Besides the frontispiece, these rips are very minimal. On the front free endpaper there is a pen and pencil inscription, together with some light stains, but there are no further pen or pencil marks written inside this book. Between a few pages there are very light cracks in the gutter. However, all the pages are secure. There are no loose or missing pages and so all 254 pages are present, plus 6 pages to the rear containing the publisher’s catalogue. Please study the photos carefully as to the condition of this book, as they do form part of the description. This measures approximately 16.8 cm by 11.3 cm and 1.7 cm wide. It weighs approximately 207 grams. Thank you so much for looking.
