Description: Offered for your consideration is this 1907 volume of the poems of Omar Khayyam as interpreted by Edward Fitzgerald. Omar Khayyam was a Persian Poet living in 1048. Persia, now Iran spoke "Old Persian a southwestern dialect of Iranian. Fitzgerald attempts to interpret the poem while trying to maintain the spirit of the original text. On each page you will see the translation and then Fitzgerald's modern day (1900's) version. A monumental task for anyone. The volume is intact although the leather is missing on the exterior end binding. Edges of the soft leather cover and rear panel are frayed. The top and bottom of the internal pages are in good condition although the edge of the pages on the long side are frayed due to the years of readers "Thumbing" through the pages. Overall the volume is in good condition based upon its now almost 120 years of age.
