Bath was granted its city status by Queen Elizabeth in 1890, but it's history goes back much further. Archaeologists believe that the original site of the city contained a spring that the Celts considered a sacred shrine. This was dedicated to the Goddess, Sulis. The Romans identified this Goddess with their own, Minerva but the name endured and the city became Aquae Sulis. This volume is in French. CONDITION Rebacked in a half calf binding with new endpapers. Externally, some wear to the extremities including some marks and stains to the boards.
