Description: This vintage sterling silver spoon is a one-of-a-kind piece that was crafted in 1904 by Dr. GW Little of Glen Falls, NY. The spoon features a unique pattern depicting the life of Dr. Little and has been referred to as “A Doctor's Joke". It is reported to have been given as a gift to his patients on the occasion of his retirement in 1904. The spoon features the likeness of Dr. Little with highlights of his life: a globe for Travel, Science & Nature, orchids that refer to his gardening orchid passion, birds and a pheasant referring to his pheasant breeding hobby. The back of the spoon has “46 year” referring to his 46 yrs of medical practice, a horse and sleigh depicting his house call routine, a scene of the Dr. at a patient’s bedside, the 1904 date, and a slogan “Dedicated to my patients who have survived my practice”. The basin of the spoon contains a sterling ball depicting a pill. The spoon is marked sterling and weighs 33gms. It is 5 7/8” long. It’s a unique piece of medical history, and historically significant to the medical history collector or Glen Falls, NY historian.
