Description: Measuring about 11" x 8", and 124 pages long plus advertising, this hardback book is "The Irvingiana, Volume 1", the first ever annual yearbook of the all-female Irving College and Music Conservatory in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. Although it says "01" on the front cover, the publication date is actually 1900. The book was put together by the Class of 1901 (then the Junior Class), and the first group photo is of the Class of 1900, the Senior Class at the time of publication. It contains the typical types of yearbook content, including clubs, organizations, sports, literary contributions, humor, and a list of alumnae from 1858 (the year of the college's first graduating class) through 1899. I thumbed through the list of names looking for anyone that struck me as famous, and the 1902 class list contains the name of Jane Parker Deeter, (later Jane Deeter Rippin), who went on to a career in social work and an 11-year stint as National Director of the Girl Scouts of the USA (1919-1930). The book is in somewhat distressed condition, with three of the preliminary pages separated from the binding (frontispiece, blank page and uncaptioned illustration), as well as a few pages with tears or creases around the edges. Plus some typical surface scuffs and stains on the cover and some light wear around the edges.
