Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 ILLUSTRATED FASHION FRENCH FAMILY JOURNAL 38th Year This 1897 hardcover book in good condition. Half-calf red binding with gilt lettering and elegant marbled covers that are slightly bowed with some scuffing and wear which is more pronounced at edges and corners as shown. There are 4 blue marbled end papers one of which is missing the about 1 by 1 1/2 inches of the right lower corner as well as about 5 other areas of marbled paper surface loss without paper loss along the bottom margin. The 2 Marbled papers in the back are is good condition with a very small amount of loss as shown in the image. This was a difficult book to display as it is very large. The double images were taken with a camera and are not very clear. so we also scanned some single images to hopefully represent the work as accurately as possible. Internally, it is a delightful collection of issues of this magazine, put out every Sunday, and this book has 40 issues, from March 14th 1897 to December 26th 1897. Each issue consists of a first page with a colored illustration, followed by a number of pages plentifully illustrated in black and white, addressing all manner of household matters, fashion, lace making, crochet, and other interests of the times. Overall, the pages are in good condition, with the paper toned and very little foxing and slight creasing through the middle of some pages due to the difficulty of binding all the issues in one. In all, there are 40 colored illustrations and 576 pages, with a very decorative title page. This book is complete as issued and we were tempted to sell each week separately, but it is such a wonderful record of the times, we decided to pass it on to be appreciated in its current form. The binding flat measures about 23 inches long by 15 3/4 inches tall and the spine is about 1 1/4 inches wide by 9 1/2 inches. It weighs about 8 lbs due to size. 1.Most common is paper darkening, or toning, resulting in the paper becoming shades darker, from off white to light brown. We rarely offer very toned prints, unless the issue is particularly scarce. 2. Text offset occurs over time, when the text page is against the image and ink from the text makes lines on the image. Conversely, image offset occurs when the hand coloring transfers slightly to the text. Again, we rarely offer heavily offset prints. 3. Spotted or foxing is also common due to age and handling over a long period of time and while a small degree of foxing is common and acceptable, we avoid extensively foxed prints. 4. Book covers may have chips, stains, corner imperfections or spine damage and color lightening or changes. SHIPPING Shipping is standard and we pack the bindings, prints and books flat and well protected in foam core or cardboard. If the prints are very large we very carefully roll them with several protective layers into a strong tube. They roll out flat very quickly. This Book Cover is large and heavy at over 10 lbs and will be shipped flat at media rate. PAYMENT This book cannot be combined due to size. We ship within one day any lots that you have paid for.
