It was an independent and internationally recognized country in Southern Africa from 1852 until 1902. They defeated the British in what is often referred to as the "First Boer War" and remained independent until the end of the "Second Boer War" in 1902, when it was forced to surrender to the British. Pictured on the coin is Paul Kruger, President of the Republic from 1883 to 1900. He came to international prominence as the face of the "Boer" cause, that of the Transvaal and its neighbor the Orange Free State. Weight: 5.63 Grams, 23 Millimeters, .925 Silver. Mintage: 437,000.
