Description: TWO BOOKS BY A. G. PLYMPTON DEAR DAUGHTER DOROTHY Illustrated by the Author 1895 Roberts Brothers Boston, MASS. Hardcover, 190 pp plus 2 pp publisher's advertisements AND DOROTHY AND ANTON A Sequel to Dear Daughter Dorothy Illustrated by the Author 1895 First Edition Roberts Brothers Noston, MASS. Hardcover, 131 pp plus 4 pp publisher's advertisements First published in 1890, Dear Daughter Dorothy is a story a charming but precocious little girl, the daughter of Robert Thorpe, a Boston businessman and widower who owns his own company. Anton, in the sequel, is a young boy and friend of Dorothy who plays the violin. This is all rather innocent stuff, but very indicitive of life in the 1890's. While either of these books aren't terribly difficult to find you don't often see them together, although they do belong together. Almira George Plympton (1852- ?) wrote and illustrated a good number of these children's books, but Dear Daughter Dorothy (and its sequel) seem to be the best known of them.
