Description: This is a lovely promotional hand fan from the World's Columbian Exposition Fair held in Chicago during the summer of 1893. Copyright 1892 by John W. Green. There are some areas of age and wear but overall in wonderful condition for 150 years old, opens and closes well, all sticks and guard in good order without breaks, pretty solid robins eggshell blue backing still with shine. Has original guards, sticks and head with bright vivid artwork. Dimensions: 24 3/8 inches wide when open 13 inches long from top to bottom. Dedication ceremonies for the fair were held on October 21, 1892, but the fairgrounds were not actually opened to the public until May 1, 1893. The fair continued until October 30, 1893. In addition to recognizing the 400th anniversary of the discovery of the New World by Europeans, the fair also served to show the world that Chicago had risen from the ashes of the Great Chicago Fire, which had destroyed much of the city in 1871. A wonderful add to any hand fan or World's Fair Souvenir collection! Photos are of the actual item being sold and they are to be considered part of the description.
