As marked on the envelope, this was shipped via the SS Umbria, a large passenger liner of the Cunard Line. Posted April, the back stamps show arrival on April 9, 1887, a crossing of the Atlantic in about 8 days. About 2 months later (May 29-June 4) the Umbria would make the crossing in just 6 days, 4 hours, a record winning the ship the coveted "Blue Riband", emblematic of the fastest ship.
