It is by Henry Tunison (1855-1915) published in Tunison's Peerless Universal Atlas of the World, Jacksonville, Illinois 1886, a copy of the title page is included for authenticity. It is from one of the rarer early editions of the Peerless Atlas, in which he used very strong and vibrant colors, especially the pinkish reds that have a fluorescent quality. It is the quality of the color that really sets Tunison's maps apart from his contemporaries, such as Rand McNally and George Cram. The color was hand applied, often by workers using stencils to speed up the process, a very typical practice of the period. There is text or another map printed on reverse. It is not matted nor framed being sold as a single sheet as shown in the main pic. Overall, a very nice map with strong color that would frame up well! Size: The dimensions of the map area between the neat lines measures 9 1/2 by 12 inches (25x32cm) on a page measuring 11 1/2 by 14" (29x36cm) with a margin all around as seen in the main pic. Condition: The map is in Very Good condition for its age with strong color, printed on strong flexible (not brittle) paper. There is a binding tab attached to the right edge.
