William Robertson Smith was a Scottish orientalist, Old Testament scholar, professor of divinity, and minister of the Free Church of Scotland. He was an editor of the Encyclopaedia Britannica and contributor to the Encyclopaedia Biblica. He is also known for his book 'Religion of the Semites', which is considered a foundational text in the comparative study of religion. This copy features publisher's advertisements to the rear. CONDITION In a brown cloth binding with gilt lettering to spine. Externally generally smart with some bumping and slight wear to the extremities. Mark to the bottom of the spine, obscuring text. Internally generally firmly bound with bright and clean pages throughout, with odd spotting to first and last few pages. Library stamp to front free-endpaper.
