Literally translated as 'song-books' the manuscripts mainly survive to preserve the text rather than the music. This set provides a comprehensive list of classic chanson manuscripts set out in alphabetical order of rhymes and trouvre, the school of poets in northern France. The first volume describes the manuscripts whilst the second holds the tables of songs and poet-authors. CONDITION In a full morocco binding. Externally, smart. Light marks and a little rubbing to the boards and spines. Library stickers to the spines. Bookplate to the front paste downs. Internally, firmly bound. Pages bright and clean with some spotting to first and last of both. Library stamp to front blank and page v of both volumes.
