1879 Horatio Seymour Writes "We must depend upon agriculture..." ALS

Description: In this insightful 1879 letter, American politician Horatio Seymour (1810-1886) laments that he will not be able to attend the "International Fair" and asserts that "We have learned in the last two years that we must depend upon agriculture to keep up the prosperity of our country." Seymour served as Governor of New York from 1853 to 1854 and again during the Civil War (1863-1864). In 1868 he ran an unsuccessful campaign against Ulysses S. Grant for the U.S. Presidency. Written on one page of a folded piece of stationery that measures: 8" x 5". Condition: Fold lines, otherwise very good condition with a neat, bold signature.
