Your satisfaction will always be our No. 1 priority! Whether you are a returning customer or a new visitor to our ebay site, thank you for stopping by. For your consideration ... ... an 1876-P Proof Seated Liberty Half Dollar graded AU-Detail by PCGS. Though not listed on the holder, this coin is the highly sought-after "'C' in Neck" variety (FS-401). Just 1,150 proof half dollars were struck in 1876 -- and fewer than 800 are estimated to survive in all grades, with even fewer in AU-Detail or better. (NOTE ABOUT THE PHOTOS: The 3rd and 4th ones are close-ups of the coin in this listing. The 5th photo is of another 1876 "'C' in Neck" Seated half pictured in a book about coin varieties. It is used here for comparison purposes.) AlSO, The SECOND photo -- which is the PCGS-taken photo, obviously -- is closest to what the coin looks like in hand, and in fact is a very good representation (though the gold-ish toning on the left obverse isn't visible in hand much, if at all). The other photos in the listing give a broader view of the coin under different lighting, shadow, angles, etc. This coin looks like a business strike at first blush, but upon closer inspection, it very clearly has the remnants of a "C" from a "CC" mint mark at the base of Liberty's neck. That positively I.D.s it as the "'C' in Neck" variety -- and a Proof coin, as the variety is only found in the 1876 proof strikes. I don't know if the PCGS graders recognized this one as a proof (because it is a "Detail" coin, the grade's wording -- AU-Detail -- would be the same whether it was a business or proof coin.) As an aside, I have found nearly a dozen proof Morgans certified by PCGS as business strikes (holders say "MS65," for example, instead of "PR65.") That's a little surprising given that PCGS is considered the cream of the crop by most collectors and sellers. That's not to say it isn't a top-tier grading agency, if not the best overall. Everyone makes mistakes, and I have found two proof Morgans certified as mint state by NGC as well. Still, the number of missed proofs is surprising. In any case, back to the this coin. The "C" is not apparent to the naked eye -- though it is clearly visible with a loupe and is immediately identifiable as the famous "C" remnant. Given that the coin is cleaned it is lacking the reflectivity and contrast seen on many proof coins. Nonetheless, though the hairlines seen in a couple of the photos are visible under a loupe, they are virtually unnoticeable with the naked eye at almost every angle and lighting condition -- even upon close inspection. What's more, this coin doesn't have that "cleaned" look -- in fact, it actually looks more like a "no problem" coin in hand than anything else -- and very nearly mint state at that. There appears to be only a minimal amount of wear on this coin on the high points, making it in the upper-tier on the AU scale. There are also a few nicks and bag marks on both the obverse and reverse, along with the odd run here and there (aside from the hairlines) but they are few and far between and none are really visible to the naked eye. If you have any questions about this coin, or any of my other listings, or would like to see additional photos, please send me an e-mail through ebay's messaging system. And don't forget to check out my other listings when you have a moment. I usually have about a dozen or so coins, and occasionally paper currency and other collectibles, listed for sale or bid. Thanks! Note to buyers: Due to the recent spate of fraudulent returns on ebay in the U.S. and other countries, all returns are now opened in the presence of the local postmaster or postal carrier, and a certified notary public. This change does NOT affect our return policy in any way. Returns are still accepted for any reason as long as the item(s) are returned unaltered and undamaged. And refunds are still processed within 24 hours of the return's arrival (and usually within just a few hours.) You can find additional details of our return policy below, but if you have any further questions, please don't hesitate to contact us through ebay. Thank you for your continued support of Shenandoah.blue. +++ RETURN POLICY: We accept returns for virtually any reason up to 30 days after your item arrives, as long as it is returned undamaged, unopened and unaltered. Raw DMPL or PL coins may still be returned if they have been taken out of their cardboard flips as I know it's important to be able to check mirror depth without the reflectivity of the flip's mylar getting in the way. However, coins must then be re-secured in a new cardboard flip or mylar holder for the return trip. When we say we offer no hassle returns for virtually any reason, we actually mean it. Don't like your item? No problem. Change your mind? No problem. Found a better price? No problem. Run it through the wash? ... OK, that would be a problem. But almost anything else — that's right, no problem. Refunds, which consist of 100 percent of the purchase price (we don't charge "restocking fees"), are usually processed the same day the returned item is delivered, and always within 48 hours. If you wish to return an item, please give us the opportunity to make things right before you leave negative or neutral feedback or open a return case with ebay. You can always go back and open a case or leave negative feedback later if you are not satisfied. I am an honest seller who does not play games with return policies, shipping costs, photos or item descriptions. Thank you for reading and for looking at our items. If you have any questions about our listings, or our return or shipping policies, please feel free to contact me. I am happy to answer any questions you might have, whether you purchase an item from us or not. Thanks again.Sincerely,- Rob "Shenandoah.Blue"
