Known as a skilled orator, this is a copy of his speech in front of the House of Representatives given on Friday, August 4, 1876 before his presidency but after his service as a leader in the Civil War During his long career in the House for Ohio. The speech is titled, “Can the Democratic Party be Safely Intrusted with the Administration of the Government”: “Speech of Hon. James A.
