Description: The American Woman’s Home: Or, Principles of Domestic Science; Being a Guide to the Formation and Maintenance of Economical, Healthful, Beautiful, and Christian Homes. By Catharine Beecher and Harriet Beecher Stowe and printed in New York City by J.B. Ford and Company. 1869, 500 pp plus advertisements, 8.25” x 5.5”, 8vo, hardcover full green cloth. As-is, with rubbing and wear to exterior, primarily along edges and corners. Text block split prior to table of contents, along with additional wear and tears between pages 264 and 265. Some additional wear along title page, including small tears down the top of the page along the spine. Appears to have more modern end pages and pastedowns added at front and rear. Nicely illustrated with black-and-white engravings throughout, primarily towards the front. General age-related toning to pages, along with periodic foxing and wear. Please see photographs and ask any questions prior to purchasing. A scarce piece collectively written by sisters Catharine (sometimes spelled Catherine) Beecher (1800-1878), an educator and reformer, and her sister Harriet Beecher Stowe (1811-1896), a prominent abolitionist and author of Uncle Tom’s Cabin. Includes advertisements at rear, including for works by Horace Greeley and Henry Ward Beecher. A great piece for restoration. COLU1868ADEX-0624-aj1822
