Description: ANY Pattern struck in Nickel ,and not a denomination that's Nickel, is VERY rare. Judd rates this coin as an R-6. We don't agree with Judd's rating, as we could only locate three examples. In our opinion, this is a high R-7 with less than 6 known. We believe this is the FINEST KNOWN J-406 (there is a 66 CAC NO Cameo). Deep and clean mirrors visually pack a tremendous punch. The mirrors also have bold clarity. There is a small die grease dot near the Indian's head, as well as a small die crack. That is all that keeps this killer piece from PR66 DC. You don't even need to spin the coin to observe the mirror's watery roll. The contrast is bold. Miss Liberty and the details are pinpoint sharp in strike and have thick frost. The eye appeal is spectacular! PCGS 1, NGC 0, CAC 1. This coin was sold at auction at the start of the Simpson sales (the ultimate pattern pedigree) for $14,400.00. There is a current Collectors Universe value of $18,500.00. We find it incomprehensible that an extremely rare Civil War date, struck in nickel and in excellent condition, is selling for less than $25,000.00 or even $50,000.00. You cannot beat this coin's quality, rarity, or pedigree.
