This business was started in 1864 by Edward Payne and Henry Bullard, making Britannia and plated ware under the name of Payne. It was part of the original group that formed International Silver Co. In 1899, the operation was moved to Meriden and merged with the Meriden Britannia Co. Employees who chose not to go to Meriden organized the Middletown Silver Co., which was bough eventually by R Wallace & Sons, Wallingford, Connecticut. Scarce piece in very good condition, showing no monogram , cuts, or major scratching, moderate signs of wear and use as pictured minor nicks and or cosmetic details as pictured, overall substantial plating with a bright glossy finish and crispy detail with no wear specks to the service area or to the raised applied cropped borders, some wear to the underneath,solid ebony handles no fissures, chips or cracks, 22 7/8" handle to hanle,19 1/4" without by 15 /4", 4.13 lbs before packing
