Volume III is illustrated with thirty-six plates, maps, and plans, thirty-five of which are folding.Collated, complete.Robert Orme's extensive history exploring years of military transactions of British in Indostan, from the year 1745 to 1761. These volumes focus in particular on the Carnatic Wars, conflicts between the French East India Company and the British East India Company. The conflicts resulted in Britain establishing a dominance amongst Europeans for trading in India, an important step in the development of the British Empire. This work was much admired by Orme's peers when first published in 1763, including the orientalist philologist William Jones. CONDITION In a half calf binding with marbled paper to the boards. Externally, generally smart. Leather is rubbed, including the spine labels, with a little loss to the head of the spine of Volume I, tail of the spine of Volume II, and to the extremities. Light rubbing to the marbled boards. Minor marks to the boards and spines. Rubbing has resulted in a small amount of loss of leather to the joints. Light bumping to the extremities. Spines are a little faded. Small chips to the spine labels of Volumes II and III. Hinges of Volume III are starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are bright and clean with the occasional spot, including to the plates in Volume III.
