Description: PRINTS BOOKS PHOTOGRAPHS MANUSCRIPTS CURIOSITIES - INCLUDES A STRIKING COUNTRY EASTATE PANORAMA AND A HUMUROUS TRIPTYCH -THURLOW (Major Edward Hovell, officer in the Royal Horse Artillery and skilled amateur artist, 1839-1925). Small collection of six original sketches of horses, circa 1860s.Four sheets of original pen and ink sketches (one with some watecolour wash), with 6 sketches in total (3 on one sheet), on mainly cream artist's card (one on blue tinted paper). Sketches laid down to clipped album card (versos blank), most separate contemporary captions in ink pasted beneath. Undated, but 1860s. One signed in initials 'E.H.T.', the others unsigned but all extracted from an album of sketches by Thurlow. Size: (sketches, exc. captions and mounts) triptych, each of the 3 sketches approx. 10cm x 7cm; the remainder 18.2cm x 11.2, 19.2cm x 15.2cm, and 39.4cm x 17.4 (all on slightly larger mounts).Very Good condition. Light spotting to one sketch and light age-toning to caption strips at foot. Panorama - central vertical join, short 6cm closed tear alongside the join, light foxing. Minor foxing to the triptych.
