Description: Here is an antique hand-colored and mixed-media steel engraving depicting a sailor dockside, with a fleet of tall- masted ships in the background. This artwork is really unusual. The artist started with a steel engraving of a sailor dockside, with a fleet of tall-masted ships in the background. Then the artist hand-colored some of the image, including the water, the boats, and perhaps the sailor's features. Then the artist found actual fabric material for the sailor's clothing and applied it to the image: white for the trousers, blue and red for the coat, and so forth. The image then appears to have been cut out and placed upon a neutral background. It's quite a feat, and quite special. The image size is 6 3/4" x 8 3/4". Matted in a single brown matte, and framed under glass in a simple silvertone wooden frame, outside dimensions 9 3/4" x 11 3/4". Age unknown, but definitely antique. Very Good to Excellent condition: the artwork has been very nicely preserved and archivally framed; the frame has a few scuffs/dings. This would make a beautiful addition to your collection of nautical art.
