Served in House of Delegates, Baltimore City, as Democrat, 1852-1853. Commercial Agent at Port of Baltimore for Republic of Venezuela, 1852. Chief Clerk, House of Delegates, 1854. Elected, Baltimore City Supreme Bench, 1892 in the "new judge" election which saw four of five sitting judges voted out of office (the fifth was not up for re-election) as part of public backlash against a judiciary too closely linked with "The Ring," Baltimore's political machine. Served on the bench until his death. Appointed trustee, McDonough Farm School and Fund, July 10, 1868. Secretary, Protestant Episcopal Sunday School Society of Baltimore City.
