Description: This tintype probably a "carnival" photo, the man and the woman wear "typical casual clothing." It is in fair but typical condition. Item 484283-b ◊ 1860-1870s - One (1) Antique Tintype Photo, Married Couple - Husband & Wife Rare and original "1860s-1870s - Two (2) Antique Tintype Photos, a Man, a Woman... And a Man." It is somewhat dark, as is typical of tintypes of the time. The tintype became popular beginning in about the 1850s. But even when the Carte de Visite (CDV) and Cabinet Card photos became popular in the '60s and '70's, roadside photographers began to pop up all over cities and carnivals, eager to snap someone’s picture for a fee. Tintypes were very durable compared to other photographs, and didn't need a case. They could also be mailed or carried around in one’s pocket. We are not sure if this two tintype photo was a "carnival" photos, but the man and the woman, they seem to be wearing "casual clothing."Here are a few specific notes about the photo: It measures 3-1/4" x 2-5/8" (8 cm x 6.6 cm.) It shows a man and a woman seated … presumably a married couple. The photographer added blush to their cheeks. The man is wearing a typical suit, vest, shirt and tie of the time. The woman is wearing a dress… dark with a lighter print, also with a lace collar and what looks like a necklace or choker. Honestly they are not wearing the type of fancy clothing people normally wore when they went to a photography studio to sit for photos. The photo is in fair condition with something on the parts of the surface that looks like some kind of glue. The back is in pretty good condition, but has a bit of adhesive on it, probably from being stored in someone's scrap book.
