Only legitimate offers will be considered. Description: This listing is for an original 1855 lithograph by P. S. Duval Steam Lithography Press of Philadelphia reduced from a survey by Senor Pedro Pissia under directions from the Government of Chile. The United States Naval Astronomical Expedition of the Southern Hemisphere took place during the years 1849 through 1852. The lithograph will be personally removed from a congressional report prepared by Lieutenant J. M. Gillis who was superintendent of the Expedition. This report was printed in 1855 in Volume 1 expressly on the country of Chile by A. O. Nicholson of Washington City. This copy was presented to the New York Representative John Mason Parker who then gifted the report to his father John C. Parker in March of 1856. The report remained in the Parker family before being donated to the Sheldon Art Museum of Middlebury, Vermont by Susan Parker in 1898. The original presentation were recorded in pencil by Representative Parker and also in pencil by Susan Parker. The title of the map was captioned in the upper left of the lithogrph with a descriptive legend in the lower left. The print sized at 8.5 by 11.5" has an image window of 7.25" by 9.75". The print is in excellent condition. Senor Pedro José Amadeo Pissis Marín (Brioude, France, May 17, 1812 – January 21, 1889, Santiago de Chile) was a French geologist who served the Chilean government in the 19th century.
