Cracking and chipping to spine, but still legible. Edges are scuffed. Marginalia on front flyleaf and title page. Printing error on title page as the book is listed as Vol. LI (51) and the date of publication being 1855. This has been corrected in pencil by a previous owner to reflect the book being Vol. 50, printed in 1854. Bottoms of front endpaper and 571/572 have been torn off; text missing on 571/572. 11/12 detached from binding. Significant toning, foxing, and age-staining throughout textblock. Scattered instances of finger-staining. Binding is fragile. Includes numerous color and sketch illustrations. Please see photos and ask any questions prior to purchase. Godey's Lady's Book was an American women's magazine that was published in Philadelphia from 1830 to 1878. It was the most widely circulated magazine in the period before the Civil War. Its circulation rose from 70000 in the 1840s to 150000 in 1860. In the 1860s, Godey's considered itself the "queen of monthlies". After several changes, it ceased publication in 1896.
