Description: - 1852 DOCTOR William Shippen SIGNED (2X) Pennsylvania Document -- Grandson of William Shippen Jr. / UPENN Medical School Founder - SUPERB Pennsylvania vellum document, a RENTAL agreement for land in Philadelphia between William Shippen M.D. & his wife Mary Louisa Shippen with Samuel H. Williams for the sum of $1000. Document is dated December 31st 1852 and is SIGNED TWICE by Dr. William Shippen and ONCE by his wife Mary L. Shippen. Doctor William Shippen was the GRANDSON of William Shippen Jr., who co-founded America’s FIRST Medical School (originally the College of Philadelphia but now the University of Pennsylvania). William Shippen Jr’s SON, Thomas Lee Shippen, was the FATHER of the Dr. Shippen who has SIGNED this document in two separate places. Document is additionally SIGNED three times (3x) by Philadelphia Alderman Williams Ogle, two times (2x) by William Moss, and ONCE by the recorder of deeds Thomas Helm. CONDITION: document has a scalloped top but measures about 23 5/8 x 18 3/8 inches in size. Document is in EXCELLENT original condition with dark writing and bold signatures. There are several vertical folds and one horizontal fold, but NO rips or tears. The three separate paper / wax seals are fully intact and problem free (see SCANS).
